On 7th April, Mumbai Indians finally won their first match of the 2024 IPL with a dominating performance over Delhi Capitals. While the batting performance was impressive and guaranteed a 200+ score, Romario Shepherd decided that the team needed a boost and they reached 234.

Coming in to bat in the 18th over, Romario Shepherd had scored seven off four by the final over. He then faced Anrich Nortje, who had conceded 33 runs by then. Shepherd decided to let loose and show off his power-hitting skills.

On the first ball of the over, he smashed the South African pacer down the ground for a four. The next ball, he smashed the ball over long-on for a six. He once again hit a six on the third ball, shuffling to the off side and slotting the ball over square-leg.

Shepherd then hit his third six of the over on the fourth ball, smashing in over cover region. The last two balls were hit for a boundary and a six, taking MI to 234 runs. Shepherd finished the innings with 39 runs of 10 deliveries.

Nortje’s poor form continues, as the Proteas star bowled his 3rd final over with 20+ runs conceded. He has conceded 215 runs in the IPL so far, with an economy of 13.44. His average isn’t up to the mark as well, giving 35.83 runs per wicket.

Jasprit Bumrah bowls beauty to dismiss dangerous Prithvi Shaw

During the loss to Mumbai Indians, Prithvi Shaw saw a resurgence in form. Missing out the first match, Shaw returned against CSK to score a well-made 43. He was dismissed for 10 against Kolkata Knight Riders while chasing 273, but finally looked in great touch against MI.

Chasing 235, Shaw gave a great start to the Capitals. Although he started off slow, finishing the powerplay with 27 runs in 22 balls, he decided to take the attack to the MI bowlers. He brought up his fifty in 31 balls, hitting seven boundaries and two sixes.

In the next eight balls he hit sixteen runs more, looking hungry for more runs. Looking more and more dangerous, it took a trademark Jasprit Bumrah yorker to dismiss the opener. Bowling in the 12th over, Bumrah was brought on to tackle Shaw and Abishek Porel, who was also in good touch.

In the fourth ball of the over, he bowled an incredible yorker, targeting the block hole. Shaw went to block it, but was too late, as the leg stump was uprooted.

Bumrah finished his spell with only 22 runs conceded, the lowest by any bowler who bowled their full quota. He also picked up the wicket of Porel in the 15th over.
