Afghanistan recorded their first victory over Pakistan in ODIs, beating them by eight wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After their victory, netizens flooded social media with congratulatory posts, including Sachin Tendulkar who posted an epic tweet on X.

Tendulkar joked that the reason behind Afghanistan’s thumping win was former India captain Ajay Jadeja who again remained unbeaten against Pakistan. Jadeja is the mentor of the Afghanistan team in the World Cup under his tutelage, the Afghans defeated England and Pakistan, their only two victories in the 2023 ODI World Cup so far.

“Afghanistan’s performance at this World Cup has been nothing short of outstanding. Their discipline with the bat, the temperament they’ve shown, and aggressive running between the wickets reflect their hard work. It could possibly be due to a certain Mr. Ajay Jadeja’s influence,” wrote Tendulkar on X.

Shoaib Akhtar also praises Ajay Jadeja for teaching Afghanistan

The Afghanistan team is coached by former England batter Jonathan Trott. Shoaib Akhtar, who has been critical of Pakistan for their ordinary batting, on Zee News, again slammed the side for a lower strike rate than Afghanistan batters.

Akhtar said Ajay Jadeja was one of the shrewdest players in the Indian team; and that he and Trott have been teaching Afghanistan’s “Pathans” which is showing the results. And from his words, it looked like he was taking a dig at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for choosing Micky Arthur and Morne Morkel as director and bowling coach.
