Former Indian pacer, Prashant Vaidya, who played for ODIs for India in the 1990s, was taken to court by the police on Wednesday (January 31) in a cheque-bouncing case. The court then released him on a surety bond.
According to senior inspector Vittalsingh Rajput in Bajaj Nagar, Vaidya allegedly bought steel from a local trader by giving them a cheque that bounced. The trader wanted a fresh payment.

And when Vaidya allegedly refused to pay, the trader moved the court. As Vaidya was reluctant to appear before the court, the court issued a non-bailable warrant. According to a report by The Times of India, while the nine bounced cheques totaled Rs 1.9 crore, the complainant claimed Vaidya has to pay him Rs 2.8 crore.
A cheque bounces when there are insufficient funds in the bank account of the person who gave the cheque to a payee. The non-bailable warrant is issued to ensure the individual, who is accused of something, appears before the court.
