The stardom MS Dhoni has in India is unmatched. Despite retiring from international cricket four years ago, the former Indian captain receives an incredible reception at every stadium he plays and the same has continued in the 2024 IPL. 

On 31st March, MS Dhoni finally came on to bat for the first time against Delhi Capitals. Coming in to bat in the 17th over when Chennai Super Kings needed 71 off 23 balls, he played an entertaining knock that made the crowd ballistic. He hit 37* off 16, smashing three sixes and four boundaries.

With every ball he faced, the crowd at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Stadium got louder and louder. Despite CSK losing the game, it looked like the crowd was enjoying the match as Dhoni batted on. 

For his innings, Dhoni was awarded the Electric Striker of the match. His wife, Sakshi Dhoni uploaded the photo of him with the award, in which she joked she didn’t realize CSK lost that night. She also welcomed Rishabh Pant back after his fifty. 

Ravi Shastri believes IPL 2024 will be his final season 

Many fans keep wondering when MS Dhoni would retire from cricket. Although he retired from international cricket in 2020, he featured in every season of the IPL and led CSK to five titles as well. With Dhoni stepping down as captain of the team, Ravi Shastri believes Captain Cool will soon retire from the sport.

This is MS Dhoni’s last season okay, very clear. You know, it depends on how his body copes with everything, whether he plays the whole season or doesn’t play the whole season, only time will tell.

Shastri further added that Dhoni won’t play an important role when it comes to tactics. He believes the former Indian captain will take the back seat and help only when needed, giving Ruturaj Gaikwad more freedom.
