Sandeep Lamichhane was a promising youngster from Nepal and franchises across different leagues wanted to sign him in. He even played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2019 season.

And while he was playing for the Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League (IPL) in 2022, reports emerged that he was accused of raping an 18-year-old girl. The allegations led to his suspension by the Cricket Association Nepal (CAN), though in February last year, he played matches.

Through a Facebook post last year, Lamichhane said he was innocent and would cooperate in the investigations. He was also barred from traveling abroad by the court, but he moved the Supreme Court, challenging the order.

Last month, he was found guilty of raping the woman by Kathmandu District Court and decided the next hearing on January 10. And now, the cricketer is sentenced to eight years in jail by a single-judge bench. He was also ordered to give Rs 200,000 to the victim as par  The Kathmandu Post.

Sandeep Lamichhane was the face of Nepal cricket and the cricket fraternity expected a lot from the 23-year-old from the Associate Nation. When reports of allegations came out, many fans hesitated to believe the story, but now they can’t believe their eyes.

The Nepalese bowler played 51 ODIs and 52 T20Is. He scalped 112 and 98 wickets in the two formats respectively.
