Scotland Cricket is ‘institutionally racist,’ review finds following Majid Haq’s allegations
Scotland Cricket racism
In November 2021, former Scottish spinner Majid Haq had talked about racism in Scotland cricket. An independent review has found out that Scotland Cricket is ‘institutionally racist”. The reports of the investigations are expected to be published on Monday, July 25.
Haq and his former teammate Qasim Sheikh had spoken about racial harassment they faced in their careers. They alleged that they had to face abusive behaviour from their teammates because of their skin colour. SportScotland appointed an organization named Plan4Sport in the very next month to conduct a review.
“The fundamental claim at the start of this was about institutional racism at the heart of cricket. This review concludes that it’s very much the case,” a source was quoted as saying on Sky Sports.

Individuals responsible would find themselves out of a job, in a jail cell, or banished from public life, says Majid Haq and Qasim Sheikh’s lawyer
Recently, Yorkshire Cricket also found itself in trouble after their former captain Azeem Rafiq claimed racism at the club. Rafiq even stated that because of the racism he faced, he even thought of taking his own life.
Aamer Anwar, Majid Haq and Qasim Sheikh’s lawyer, said, “Cricket Scotland is dysfunctional and institutionally racist – if that is confirmed by this review, it will be devastating for Cricket Scotland. There are those within the organisation who should be ashamed of their treatment of Majid and Qasim and so many other cricketers who gave their lives to cricket but saw their careers taken away from them.
“In any other walk of life, the individuals responsible would find themselves out of a job, in a jail cell, or banished from public life. Yet, when it comes to cricket, they are rewarded with promotions and status. Racism exists in Cricket Scotland and my clients know that has been the case for many years, through generations of cricketers,” he added.
