India’s batting stalwart Virat Kohli will be playing his 500th International match when he comes out to bat against the West Indies in the second Test. In the 499 games played so far, Kohli has piled up runs across formats and has several records to his name. But despite being a modern-day great, Kohli is humble and down to earth.
There have been numerous instances when Kohli has won hearts with his gesture. While the 34-year-old was recently spotted clicking selfies with young West Indies cricketers and signing autographs, Kohli made a gesture for a senior journalist which left the latter emotional.
Vimal Kumar, an independent senior Indian journalist shared an anecdote with his fans on his YouTube channel. He talked about Virat Kohli’s gesture toward him ahead of the second Test and how it was an emotional moment for him. The journalist revealed that Kohli on his way to the hotel from Port of Spain airport, introduced him (the journalist) to his wife Anushka Sharma.
Virat Kohli was already touted to be a great by Lalchand Rajput
The journalist shared several other anecdotes about his meeting with Virat Kohli. During the same, Vimal Kumar also revealed how Kohli was touted as the next Sachin Tendulkar even before he made his International debut. The journalist remembered how Lalchand Rajput, a prominent name in India’s domestic coaching circuit was in awe of Virat Kohli.
“When I met Lalchand Rajput, he told me about Virat Kohli and even looked surprised when I mentioned that I did not him much. He then showed me Kohli’s batting and said ‘I have fallen in love with this guy’. When I asked Lalu bhai why was he so excited about this young boy, he said ‘You know he has got the vibe like Tendulkar’,” said Vimal Kumar in his video.
While Lalchand Rajput made these claims some 17 years ago, fast forward to 2023 and it won’t be wrong to say that the former India cricketer was indeed visionary. Virat Kohli is now more than a mere cricketer. The 34-year-old sits atop a heap of records that might not get broken ever.
