It’s 11 needed out of 6 deliveries. Pakistan has only 2 wickets left in hand. Fazalhaq Farooqi is the bowler. On strike is pacer Naseem Shah. Shadab Khan, the only established batsman left, is on the nonstriker’s end. He had hit Abdul Rahman for a boundary and a maximum on the previous 2 deliveries. Now all that was left was for Naseem Shah to get Shadab on strike.
Fazalhaq starts his run up and as he gets closer to the crease he sees Shadab backing up. Fazalhaq then does what any bowler who wants to win a match would do. He mankads him. The Afghanis start celebrating while Shadab stands there, waiting for the final decision.
The third Umpire checks the replays and sees that Shadab is out of the crease when Fazalhaq is about to jump into his stride, but he pulls out and hits the stumps instead. Shadab is declared run out and in comes the last batsman in the Pakistan batting lineup, Haris Rauf. Fazalhaq has successfully mankaded Shadab Khan.
Easy victory for Afghanistan now, right? Nope
Naseem Shah’s heroics win Pakistan the 2nd ODI
With 11 required off 6 balls and Afghanistan requiring just a wicket to win, everyone thought it would be an easy victory for them. The next ball Fazalhaq bowls is a slower ball on the full length, which Naseem Shah hits between mid-wicket and Long on for a boundary. 7 required of 5.
Fazalhaq bowls another slower ball but this time Naseem misses it. 7 off 4. Next ball Naseem manages to connect the ball, but not in the way he wants it. Inside Edge manages to get them a single.
6 off 3 now. Fazalhaq bowls yet another slower ball which Haris manages to loft on the right of Deep Midwicket. The fielder at Deep midwicket reaches but is then sent to the wrong direction after the ball changes directions after bouncing, Luckily another fielder is there to ensure it’s not a boundary. Haris and Naseem manage to run 3.
3 of 2. Pressure on both sides now. Despite getting the only established batsman out, he has conceded 8 runs off 4 balls. Naseem, who is a tailender, has to somehow win the game for his side. Fazhalhaq bowls around the stumps, with another slower ball on the off side. Naseem goes to slog it but doesn’t time the ball. Outside edge.
The outside edge goes flying in between the keeper and the short third man and somehow Naseem has won his country a game that they almost lost. Naseem takes off his helmet and celebrates with his teammates, as Pakistan win the ODI Series 2-0.
