Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi is undoubtedly one of the finest new-ball bowlers going around the world at the moment. The left-arm pacer’s ability to swing the ball both ways and also swing it late makes Afridi one of the deadly pacers. No Indian cricket fan can forget the pacer’s opening spell at the 2021 T20 World Cup where Afridi dismissed Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul with two peaches of deliveries.
The left arm quick recreated the dismissal during his first over at The Hundred league while playing for Welsh Fire. As Afridi was handed the responsibility to open the bowling attack for Welsh Fire, the left-arm quick got Laurie Evans and Phil Salt on the first two deliveries of his over.
Afridi trapped both the batters LBW as the left-armer got the ball to tail a long way back into the right-handed batters. While Salt was fed a pitched-up delivery, Evans got a tailing in yorker from the Pakistan pacer.

Shaheen Afridi’s opening spell helped Welsh Fire defeat Manchester Originals
On the back of this terrific start provided by Shaheen Afridi, Welsh Fire defeated Manchester Originals by 9 runs. While Afridi got two early wickets, Jos Buttler and Max Holden brought Originals back into the game, stitching a 63-run partnership. Holden also took charge against Afridi as the Originals batter hit the Welsh Fire pacer for four consecutive boundaries. Holden scored 18 runs off Afridi’s last five deliveries.
Meanwhile, Jos Buttler also hit a few sixes here and there to keep his team alive in the contest. But the pair could not take Manchester Originals home as David Willey struck in quick succession to remove Holden and then Paul Walter. In the end, it came down to 24 runs off the last five balls and Buttler could not finish it off. Welsh’s Luke Wells was named the Players of the Match for his 23-ball 57.
