Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi made a major statement about the India-Pakistan clash in the upcoming ODI World Cup later this year. The two teams are scheduled to face off on 15th October at the massive Narendra Modi Stadium.

Shaheen Afridi last played in the Vitality Blast where he picked up 22 wickets in 14 matches, also claiming a four-wicket first over against Birmingham Bears. After missing out on cricket because of a knee injury, Shaheen is fit and ready to play for Pakistan in the World Cup.

On his fitness, Afridi said, “I am fully fit; that’s why I’m back in the Test team. If I hadn’t been fully match fit, my name wouldn’t have been in the squad.”

India and Pakistan have played each other seven times in the World Cup so far, and India has won all those seven encounters. India-Pakistan matches took place in 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003, 2011, 2015, and 2019. They will face each other for the eighth time in 50-over World Cups in October this year.

Shaheen Afridi wants Pakistan to treat India as just another opponent and shift their main focus on going all the way and winning the World Cup. Pakistan have won the World Cup just once, in 1992 under the captaincy of Imran Khan.

On India-Pakistan’s match up in the World Cup, Shaheen said, “We should stop thinking and concentrating on just India versus Pakistan match because that’s just one game. We need to focus our thoughts on how to win the World Cup, and as a team, this will be our aim.”

Rohit Sharma-led team India will look to end their decade-long trophy drought at the 2023 ODI World Cup and also put on a show against arch-rivals Pakistan on 15th October.
