India Women captain Harmanpreet Kaur has invited criticism from all corners of the world after her conduct during the ODI series against Bangladesh Women. In the third ODI, she swung her bat and smashed the stumps after being given out by the umpire off lbw. After the match, she condemned the umpires.

The Indian captain was slapped with 75 percent of her match fee as well as received a two-game suspension. She received four demerit points as well. Four demerit points mean a player will be suspended from playing one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is based on the next matches the team will play.

Her behavior was heavily criticized by ex-Indian cricketers for tarnishing the image of Indian cricket and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). And now, former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi launched an attack on Harmanpreet, saying the International Cricket Council (ICC) should have given her severe punishment. Afridi said such punishments set an example for the future.

This is not just India. We’ve seen these things in the past as well. Although, we don’t see this often in women’s cricket. This was way too much, it was a big event under ICC. With the punishment, you set an example for the future,” Shahid Afridi told Samaa TV.

Former skipper Shantha Rangaswamy heavily criticized Harmanpreet Kaur over her antics in the third ODI against Bangladesh. Rangasway said that had Harman stopped after her dismissal, there would have been less outrage.

Rangaswamy said that though Harman is one of India’s best batters, such acts like this only undo all the good work done by both the boards of the two countries. Rangaswamy further said that Harman as a brand ambassador of Indian Women should not have behaved like that.
