Dhawan has often got emotional while talking about his son. In an Instagram post on Zoravar’s birthday, Dhawan shared a heartfelt message but said he was unsure if his son read what he wrote because Mukherjee has blocked him on social media platforms. On the Humans of Bombay podcast, Dhawan revealed he has not been in touch with Zoravar for more than five months.

When I used to visit my son in Australia for a week, he used to meet me only for a few hours. I want to spend quality time with him, want him to sleep in my arms, I want to hug him tight, give him the father's love he deserves. I haven't had a word with him for the last 5–6 months.
