“I’ll be back” – Shimron Hetmyer leaves Rajasthan Royals camp for the birth of his first child
Shimron Hetmyer
In a major setback for Rajasthan Royals, batsman Shimron Hetmyer has left for Guyana for the birth of his first child. The 25-year-old batsman has been crucial for RR this season with the bat, becoming one of the best finishers in the competition. Shimron Hetmyer reportedly left Mumbai on Sunday morning, on the back of a superb win against Punjab Kings, where his 31 off just 16 helped RR chase down a massive 189. Rajasthan Royal’s Twitter account announced the player’s departure.

“My stuff is still left in the room”, – Shimron Hetmyer when asked if he would return to IPL
While the player is definitely set to miss a couple of games at least for Rajasthan Royals. He hopes to return for the playoffs. Rajasthan Royals currently sit third on the Points table, in a comfortable position to qualify for the playoffs. With 14 points and 3 games to go, Sanju Samson and his team will be confident of their chances. However, the team will surely miss Shimron Hetmyer while he is gone.
Shimron Hetmyer has scored 291 runs for the Royals at an average of 72.75. He has been an absolute rock at the ending overs of the match remaining not out in 7 out of Royals’ 11 games. What’s even more interesting is his ability to finish games, whether it is to put up a score or just chase down a huge total. The 25-year-old has a strike rate of 214.28 in the death overs of IPL this season, meaning Rajasthan might find it difficult to replace the Guyanese.
Rassie Van der Dussen, James Neesham and Nathan Coulter-Nile are the direct alternatives that Sanju Samson has for Shimron. Daryl Mitchel is also an option. However, it will surely be difficult for any of these players to emulate Shimron Hetmyer’s performances, given their lack of experience and game time.
