The auction for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) is currently underway in Dubai on December 19 with a total of 333 cricketers who will go under the hammer. In the first set, consisting of seven batters, only three got sold.
Australia’s Steve Smith was one of the four batters who got unsold. He put his name on the auction list for Rs 2 crore but no franchise was interested in him. It’s important to note that Smith may find a team in the second round of the auction.
Smith made his IPL debut in 2012 and played in every season till 2017. After missing the 2018 IPL, he returned in 2019 and played till 2021. He did not feature in the IPL 2022 and 2023.
