India’s middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer is not playing the Super Four match against Pakistan on Sunday (September 10) at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Captain Rohit Sharma, during the toss, said that the management had to make a forced change and include KL Rahul because Iyer got a back spasm.
Rahul missed out on the previous match against Pakistan in the group stage. In his place Iyer batted and scored just 14 runs from nine balls with two fours, before he was dismissed by Haris Rauf‘s delivery with a catch by Fakhar Zaman.
In the ongoing Super Four match, India won the toss and opted to bat first. Rohit announced the two changes they have made to the playing XI. He said that pacer Jasprit Bumrah will replace Mohammed Shami, while Shreyas Iyer, who got back spasm, won’t be a part of the XI, and in his place, Rahul will come to bat at the number four position of the batting line-up.
“Looking to bat first. There will be a challenge upfront, but the way we guys batted last time around gives us confidence. Every game is important for us, but one thing at a time to focus on. (On rainy days) That’s the nature of the sport, it gave us a good time to prepare and now we’ll look to play well. Two changes- Bumrah is back and once forced change, Shreyas Iyer just got a back spasm so KL Rahul comes in for him,” Rohit said during the toss.
