In the past few months, Shreyas Iyer was in trouble with the BCCI as he refused to play in the Ranji Trophy. Before the start of the England tour of India, he was forced to play a match for Mumbai as preparation for the series. After being dropped, Iyer was instructed to play in the Ranji, but he refused.
With Jay Shah claiming the BCCI will now give more importance to red-ball cricket, the administrative body has decided to increase the match fee for Test matches. Currently, a player earns ₹15 lakh for playing one Test. They also instructed all contracted players to play in the Ranji Trophy if they were fit.
They have decided to punish the contracted players for not playing Ranji. With the aim of not getting the bad books of the BCCI and an attempt to get back into the Test side, Iyer will return to play in the Ranji Trophy.

Mumbai recently drew the quarter-final match with Baroda, but went through thanks to their first innings lead. They will play Tamil Nadu on 2nd March at the BKC Grounds, Mumbai.

Now with Jharkhand knocked out, Kishan has decided to prepare for the upcoming 2024 IPL. In the DY Patil T20 Cup, he is playing for Reserve Bank of India. He is currently opening for RBI as they chase down 193 against Route Mobile Ltd.
