Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten century helped India level the three-match ODI series by 1-1. With the help of his century and Ishan Kishan’s 83-run knock, Men in Blue comfortably chased down the target by seven wickets on October 9 at the JCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.

Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to bat first. Reeza Hendricks scored 74 runs off 76 balls, while Aiden Markram played an 89-ball 79 runs. Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller added 30 and 35 runs respectively to propel their score to 278/7 in their 50 overs.

India didn’t have a flying start as they lost the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan in the 6th over and Shubman Gill in the ninth over. However, that didn’t stop the next two batters, Kishan and Iyer from producing carnage during their knocks.

Kishan smacked 15 boundaries to score 93 runs off 84 balls and was dismissed in the 35h over by Imdaad Fortuin. Fortuin bowled around the off-pole, and Kishan rocked back hard but ended up hitting it flat. Since there was no elevation on it, Reeza Hendricks at the mid-wicket fence grabbed a low catch.

Iyer went on to play to score his century. He faced 111 balls to score 113 runs at a strike rate of 101.8. Sanju Samson also added a crucial 30 runs off 36 balls to take India to win the second ODI by seven wickets. The two teams will square off for the third and decider ODI on October 11 in Delhi.
