Shubman Gill‘s scintillating century simply overshadowed Virat Kohli‘s seventh Indian Premier League (IPL) ton when Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) played against each other, which was also their last league matches. Though GT were already sitting comfortably on top of the points table, being already qualified for the playoffs, RCB needed to toil hard.

From RCB’s side, only Kohli’s bat talked, as he scored an unbeaten 101 off 61 balls. Apart from him, other batters fumbled with no batters reaching 30 runs. Later, for GT, apart from Gill, Vijay Shankar also played a crucial knock under pressure, scoring 53 off 35 runs. Gill, on the other hand, smashed eight fours and five boundaries to plunder an unbeaten 104 off 52 balls to guide the defending champions to a six-wicket victory.

However, right after RCB’s defeat which also ended their campaign, RCB trolls started attacking Shubman Gill as well as his sister Shahneel Gill with derogatory comments. This saw Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal share the screenshots of some of the offensive tweets on Twitter and said the commission will take action.

Now Gill has liked a fan’s post writing an open letter to Virat Kohli fans after the aforementioned incident online. Netizens were quick to notice the 23-year-old’s action.

After RCB’s exit from the ongoing IPL, a disappointed Virat Kohli took to his Instagram to share a heartfelt note, thanking the fans for their continuous support for the team.

A season which had it’s moments but unfortunately we fell short of the goal. Disappointed but we must hold our heads high. To our loyal supporters, grateful for backing us every step of the way. A big thank you to the coaches, management and my teammates. We aim to be back stronger,” Kohli wrote.

Gill replied to Kohli’s post by not writing anything but posting three crown emoticons hailing Kohli as the king. Gill, despite receiving hate on social media from trolls, shares a great bond with Kohli as the youngster calls ‘King Kohli’ his idol.
