Shubman Gill had been at the receiving end due to his ordinary performances in international matches but finally, he made sure he shuts his critics when he slammed his century against England. On Day 3 of the second Test in Vizag, Gill’s knock put India in the driver’s seat.
Gill remained the high scorer in the second innings, for other batters struggled to score even 50 runs. With 11 boundaries and two sixes, Gill made 104 runs from 147 balls.
But in the 56th over, the 24-year-old attempted a reverse sweep off debutant Shoaib Bashir’s delivery. Wicketkeeper Ben Foakes was quick behind the stumps and appealed for caught behind. Skipper Ben Stokes went upstairs for the third umpire’s review, and it came in their favor.
Gill was the second-highest run scorer in the first innings after Yashasvi Jaiswal who hit his maiden double century (209 off 290). From 46 balls, Gill scored 34 runs with five boundaries.
