Indian opener Shubman Gill has scored his 5th ODI century in 2023. He reached his century in 92 balls on the last ball of the 33rd over after stealing a quick single. His innings had six boundaries and four maximums.
After losing Ruturaj Gaikwad early, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer put up a 200 run partnership off 164 balls, where Iyer had scored 105 runs and Gill with 92. Thanks to their partnership, India were in a great position while setting up a competitive target for Australia to chase.
Sadly Gill’s innings came to an end two overs later. He tried to hit Cameron Green down the ground but mistimed it and the ball went high up and was caught by Alex Carey. After taking a tough catch, Carey chased down Gill along with KL Rahul to congratulate the young batter for an amazing innings.
Win this ton, Gill has joined list of batters with five or more centuries in a year. The list has the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, and Shikhar Dhawan.

Fans on social media can’t hold back their praise of the young star. Gill has scored his 5th century of the year, the most in 2023 by any batter. Fans called his innings tremendous and phenomenal. Gill could also overtake Babar Azam as the number one ODI batsman in the ICC rankings. This means India could have the number one bowler and batsman in the team while also being the number one ODI team. Gill currently has a rating of 814, while Babar has a rating of 857.
Some fans were not happy after Gill got out, saying he should have tried to bat longer and shouldn’t have played such a lazy shot. Others said a century was expected as the pitch was flat and the Holkar Stadium’s boundaries were really small.
