Shubman Gill vs KL Rahul: Who will open for India in Indore Test? What did Rohit Sharma say?
Captain Rohit Sharma had previously backed the out-of-form Rahul after winning the Delhi Test and did not change his stance on the eve of the Indore Test in the press conference.

Who will open for India during the third Test in Indore against Australia? KL Rahul or Shubman Gill? This is the only question fans have in their minds ahead of the third match, starting March 1.
And captain Rohit Sharma’s practice video in the nets with Gill seemed to have answered the burning question. But Rohit’s response in the press conference on the eve of the Indore Test once again kept everyone guessing. India checked all of their boxes except one, KL Rahul’s form. Rohit Sharma’s bat worked, and so did the middle orders, the all-rounders did brilliantly, plus one can’t stop praising the spinners on home conditions.

Now that Rahul is no longer India’s designated vice-captain, in all likelihood, Gill will open alongside Rohit. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that KL Rahul is no longer the vice-captain while revealing the squad for the next two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The apex body has given the power to Rohit to decide who will be his deputy.

Rohit Sharma says 17-18 are in the reckoning and not just KL Rahul and Shubman Gill

Rohit Sharma had rather an unusual take on this. He gave his first reaction since Rahul’s snub as vice-captain. He had previously backed the out-of-form Rahul after winning the Delhi Test and did not change his stance on the eve of the Indore Test in the press conference.
“I said it after the last game also. When we talk about players doing through a tough time, anyone with potential will be given enough time to prove himself. Being vice-captain or not being vice-captain doesn’t tell you anything. At that point it time when he was the vice-captain, he was probably the senior most. His removal of vice-captaincy doesn’t indicate anything,” Rohit said on Tuesday.
Gill had a lengthier batting session, catching practices at the slips, and also in the forward short-leg, which is really indicating that Gill can make a comeback in whites. But Rohit was being Rohit in the press conference and did not disclose anything about the playing XI.
“Today was an optional training session for the entire group. All 17-18 are in the reckoning. It’s not just about Gill and Rahul. But as far as our XI is concerned, we have not finalized it yet. I prefer it to be announced at the toss. Can’t count last-minute injuries and all and we will keep it interesting for you guys as well,” Rohit added.
