In the history of cricket, the controversial run-out, also known as ‘Mankad’ has always ended up with a heated debate. ‘Mankad’ when a player steps out of crease before the ball is bowled and the bowler from the non-striker’s end can run out the batter. Previously, Ravichandran Ashwin had Mankaded Jos Buttler and that created a huge controversy.
A similar incident took place during the Senior Women’s T20 League. This happened between the match between Maharashtra and Rajasthan at the Siechem Stadium in Puducherry.
Smriti Mandhana, Maharashtra cricketer was mankaded by bowler KP Choudhary in the 9th over of the match. The bowler was very quick to remove the bail off stumps in her run-up when she saw Mandhana stepping the crease. Smriti Mandhana had scored only 28 runs which included three fours and a six. Following the dismissal, Mandhana got involved in an argument with the opposition players.

“It is good for us to give warning once”- Smriti Mandhana
Recently, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) had decided to make mankading a fair run-out.
“Law 41.16- running out the non-striker-has been moved from Law 41 (Unfair Play) to Law 38 (Run-out). The wording of the law remains the same,” MCC had said in its statement.
Maharashtra had won the toss and opted to bowl. Rajasthan Team could only post a paltry 102 runs. It was an easy win for Maharashtra as the highest run score from Rajasthan S P Kumawat had scored a mere 29 run of 34 balls. Maharashtra’s Aarati S Kedar grabbed 3 wickets by conceding just 9 runs in four overs.
Mandhana had said earlier those batters should be warned before Mankading.
“Well, I think it is in the rules of the game, that you can get the batter out. But I think it is good for us to give warning once, or twice maybe,” Mandhana had said during the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2020.
“As a batter, if I keep doing that then the third time, I think the bowler has the right to get me out. So that’s what I feel.”
