A few months ago Pakistani legend, Shoaib Akhtar on Revsportz said that Virat Kohli should retire from white ball cricket to prolong his test career. Shoiab believes that if Virat retires from T20Is and ODIs, he will be able to break Sachin’s record of 100 centuries.
Virat has played 501 international matches for India, and in those 501 games he has scored over twenty thousand runs. Virat is regarded as one of the best in the world, but Shoaib believes that he will be at his best if he only focuses on Test cricket and gives up white ball cricket.
“I don’t think he should play more 50-overs matches after this World Cup. Also, if you see him in T20s, it takes a lot out of him. I think he should play for at least six more years and break the 100 hundreds record of Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli has it in him to break the record. He should focus on Test cricket after this World Cup, and break this record,” said Shoaib on the show “Backstage with Boria.
Sourav Ganguly disagrees with Shoaib, says Virat should play whatever he wants

Sourav Ganguly after finding out what Shoaib said, “Why? Virat Kohli should play whatever cricket he wants to play. Because he performs”. Ganguly didn’t find any logic in Shoaib’s statement and questioned his statement as he believes that Virat should play in all formats as long as he wants.
Virat currently is a regular for the ODI and Test team, but has not played in a T20I since 2022. In the previous year, Virat has been consistently performing in all formats. He has had plenty of match winning knocks for India and will be doing his best to continue this form with two mega events in the Asia Cup and World Cup coming.
