“Speed se kuch nahi hota”- Shaheen Afridi responds to question related to Umran Malik

Umran Malik and Shaheen Afridi
IPL has ended with Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Umran Malik clinching 22 wickets, stood second with second fastest spell (157 kph) of the tournament after Lockie Ferguson clocking 157.3 kph. Umran Malik’s performance has earned him a call-up to India squad for the upcoming South Africa series.
Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi, with his fine line, length and swing has been tormenting batsmen across the glove for the past few years, which also awarded him with Sir Garfield Sobers award for the man’s cricketer of the year in 2021. When the 22-year-old was asked about the recently concluded IPL tournament where Ferguson and Malik (also the pacer with highest wicket in IPL 2022) had shattered the batting line up with their fast deliveries, Shaheen Afridi said that raw speed is of now use if it doesn’t have swing, line, and length.
“Speed se kuch nahi hota (speed is of no use),” Shaheen’s different response when asked if he wanted to improve his pace. There is indeed no denying that Umran Malik has to do plenty of work on his bowling.
“Tough challenge for the fast bowlers in summer”- Shaheen Afridi

Shaheen Afridi was speaking at the press conference ahead of Pakistan’s ODI series in West Indies.
“I haven’t thought about bowling so fast. I personally believe, speed is of no use. If you don’t have line, length and swing, you can’t beat the batter easily. Nevertheless, I try to focus on my fitness so that my pace can also increase. Hopefully, I will be able to generate more pace and my line and length will also get better,” Shaheen said during a press conference.
“The weather is hot but we are looking forward to playing good cricket in it. It would be a tough challenge for the fast bowlers to bowl long spells in summer but as a professional, we are ready to face it,” he added.
“This is an important series in terms of World Cup qualification which is why we don’t want to lose any match. Also, West Indies are a strong international side and it is not as if they are sending under-19 players for this series,” he added.
