Rohit Sharma had struggled against Shaheen Shah Afridi in India’s first match of the 2023 Asia Cup. Shaheen bowled Rohit early in his innings and had picked up 3 more Indian wickets. Ex-Indian cricketer Sreesranth said the most important part of the Super 4 fixture would be how Rohit would play against Shaheen.

Rohit Sharma exceeded expectations and played aggressively. The openers, Rohit and Shubman Gill started attacking from the start, with both scoring half centuries with a strike rate above 100. Thanks to centuries by Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, India put up a huge total of 356 runs. Pakistan were then bowled out for 128 runs after a great bowling performance by India and lost by a record breaking 228 runs.

Sreesanth, while speaking to Sportskeeda on Rohit’s performance, said, “There was a lot of talk that Rohit struggles when the ball comes in. But we saw, when the ball came in, it went out [for six]. With the flick he played, he told Afridi, ‘Bete, aaj main taiyyar hoon [Son, I am ready]’. Shaheen Afridi will always remember that flick. He may have dismissed Rohit many times, but even while sleeping he might be thinking about that flick,”

On the reserve day of India vs Pakistan, Haris Rauf couldn’t bowl due to a minor discomfort. Naseem Shah on the other hand, had injured his right shoulder during the same match. They both were ruled out of the 2023 Asia Cup, and Pakistan had gotten Zaman Khan and Shahnawaz Dahani in their place.

A few hours after their loss to Sri Lanka, there were reports floating that Naseem Shah might miss the first few games of the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. Pakistan captain, Babar Azam, confirmed these reports are true, but Naseem would play the later games.

Although Haris Rauf didn’t play against India and Sri Lanka due to a side strain, captain Babar Azam in a press conference said he would recover before the start of the World Cup.
