On 26th October, Sri Lanka beat England in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup by 8 wickets. This is the 6th time Sri Lanka have beaten England in the ODI World Cup, with the Lankan Lions not losing a single match to England since 2007. A great bowling performance by Sri Lanka ensured they won their 2nd match in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. 

Electing to bat first, England lost all 10 wickets in a span of 111 runs. Angelo Mathews, who came in as a replacement for Matheesha Pathirana, picked up 2 wickets and ran out Joe Root. Lahiru Kumara also picked up 3 wickets. Ben Stokes put up a resistance, but was dismissed for 43 runs by Kumara. They were bowled out for just 156 runs, the lowest total in the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Sri Lanka lost Kusal Perera and captain Kusal Mendis cheaply in the powerplay, but thanks to a stand of 137 by Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama, Sri Lanka chased down the target in 154 balls. Nissanka scored 77 while Samarawickrama scored 65. Nissanka finished the match in style by stepping down the ground and hitting Adil Rashid for a six over long-off.

England are brutally trolled for losing their 4th match of the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup

England have lost 4 matches out of the five matches they have played so far. Despite being the defending champions, they are not the favorites to qualify for the semi-finals.If they lose to India on Sunday, it would be mathematically impossible for England to qualify for the Semi Finals.

Meanwhile, a win over England could boost Sri Lanka’s morale and form. Fans have trolled the England team for their below-par performance, but have praised the Sri Lankan team for their dominating victory.

England will now face India on Sunday in the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. If they lose that match they will be knocked out of the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. Sri Lanka will face the in-form Afghanistan in the MCA Stadium, Pune. Sri Lanka is now tied for points with Pakistan and Afghanistan
