This invited criticism from Steve Waugh, who slammed Cricket South Africa (CSA) and asked the board to pay more to the players to make them play Test cricket. Usman Khawaja was asked about South Africa’s situation on Fox Cricket. He said if he had to choose between franchise cricket and Test cricket, he would choose the former.

Not because it doesn't mean anything- I love playing for my country, but it is also a case of looking after your family and doing things right. David Warner is set to play his farewell Test match on his home ground in Sydney on Wednesday (January 3) against Pakistan. For a long time, Warner came to open Australia’s innings in Test cricket alongside Usman Khawaja and for the last time, he would walk onto the field with Khawaja in Sydney. Ahead of his final Test match, Warner got emotional while talking about Khawaja. Warner said he was telling Khawaja that on the latter’s debut, he was sitting in one of the boxes in Sydney. The 37-year-old called it a fairytale ending, saying he and Khawaja have gone through junior cricket and played the highest level for a long period of time.
