Australia’s batting legend and a member of the Fab 4, Steve Smith crossed the 9K-run mark in Test cricket on Wednesday, during the 1st day of the 2nd Ashes Test at Lord’s. Australia lead the Ashes series 1-0.
Smith has managed to achieve this feat in 99 tests. By getting to 9,000 Test runs in 174 innings, he is only second to Kumar Sangakkara in the list who reached the mark in 172 innings. The 34-year-old is now the fastest Australian to score 9,000 runs, surpassing Ricky Ponting who achieved this feat in 106 Tests.
However, in terms of the number of Tests, Smith is the fastest to score 9000 runs in Test cricket.

Steve Smith surpasses Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid

Steve Smith also surpassed Indian legends Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid after crossing the 9K mark. While Sachin Tendulkar reached the 9K run mark in 179 innings, Rahul Dravid did the same in 176 innings. Smith has completed 9K runs at an astounding average of nearly 60.
Truly a modern-day GOAT, Steve Smith is the only batter to achieve this milestone in less than 100 tests. Ever since he came back to form, there has been no looking back, he has taken the game of Test cricket to greater heights.
