Australian cricketer Steve Smith and partner Dani Willis have sold his Vaucluse mansion for $12.38 which is almost double the price of what he paid for the property in 2020.

On Thursday evening, an auction took place for the Kings Road house that saw tight competition from two buyers and the price was pushed beyond $6.6 million which Smith and Willis had bought in 2020.

They had transformed the mansion in the short time frame and turned it into more luxurious than before my McKim Design. The house has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and four parties had registered to buy it with an offer of $11.5 million.

Steve Smith is one of the modern-day greats and one of Cricket Australia’s top five earners. But he has a side-hustle in renovating property for almost a decade.

In 2015, he had bought a rundown house in Balmain East for $2 million which he renovated into something which recent marketig described it as “cutting-edge glamour”.

“I can’t sell it at this number,” said auctioneer Damien Cooley of Cooley Auctions when the bidding stalled at the $12 million mark. But then it jumped to $12.35 million and later Cooley knocked back smaller increases and took the bidding to the $12.38 million. Through Raine & Horne Double Bay’s Albert Sassoon and Frank Colacicco, of Bentley Estate Agents, the property was sold through.

“I think it’s a great result in the current market. It is a beautiful home, beautifully built, and it was a good result to have four registered bidders.”

The house has a marble kitchen with butler’s pantry. Above is an entertaining terrace that overlooks a heated swimming pool. There are marble bathrooms, a double garage and high-end finishes that also have heated floors, remote control functionality and exteral cameras. There is also a home theatre, wine storage with a wet bar.
