Steve Smith gives no-nonsense reply to tweet claiming Jofra Archer ‘terrorised’ Australians during 2019 Ashes
Archer scalped 22 wickets in four matches and helped England win the 2019 Ashes.
England pacer Jofra Archer was an exciting prospect when he appeared on the scenes. Known to deliver at 145+ kmph, Archer was considered to be one of the deadliest bowlers in Test cricket. However, injuries have barred his progress in red-ball cricket as the English pacer was once again ruled out of action. Archer’s name was missing as England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced its squad for the upcoming Ashes series.
The recurring elbow injury has prevented the lanky pacer from making a much-awaited comeback and featuring in one of the most popular Test series globally, the Ashes. Nevertheless, Archer has played in the Ashes before and it was a dream debut for the pacer. Archer scalped 22 wickets in four matches and helped England win the 2019 Ashes.
But more than his two-six wicket hauls, Archer’s delivery to Steve Smith that knocked the Aussie batter down is talked about. As Archer was ruled out on Wednesday, an Australian media outlet, CODE Cricket broke the news in a rather interesting way.
“England paceman @JofraArcher terrorised Australia’s batsmen four years ago. But Steve Smith and co can breathe a huge sigh of relief after an update from England’s medical staff this evening,” tweeted the outlet while announcing the development. This tweet certainly did not sit too well with Steve Smith who gave a no-nonsense reply. “Terrorised? ? remind me when I was dismissed by him…..,” Smith replied to the tweet.
Jofra Archer out of English Summer
Talking about Jofra Archer getting ruled out, the England pacer is once again facing problems with his right elbow that kept him out of action for several months. Despite multiple surgeries, Archer has been unable to recover completely and England’s managing director finds it frustrating.
“It has been a frustrating and upsetting period for Jofra,” said Rob Key. He was making good progress until a recurrence of the elbow injury which kept him out for an extended period previously.I’m hoping at some point, Jofra, who deserves a bit of luck and is distraught about what’s happened, that his luck turns. I’m sure it will. At the moment all cricket has been too much for his body to cope with and we need to get past that,” he added.
