Cricket has been a very popular summer sport in Australia. Starting from October till March, the professional cricket season runs and many people enjoy the game with friends and families. During the last two weeks of January, the Australian Open is also held in Melbourne. 

Every year the stars of the sport participate in the AO, like Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Danil Medvedev. Before the start of the Main Draw, the organizers held an event in which Novak Djokovic was seen trying his hand out at Cricket, while also playing with Australian star Steve Smith.

It first started with Djokovic trying his hand at cricket, being made to play with a cricket bat. He missed his first ball but then got his tennis racquet near him. As the bowler started his action, He switched the bat for his racquet and hit the ball into the crowd. 

Later he played Tennis with Steve Smith. Serving to the Australian star, he successfully returned with a forehand shot. Djokovic was stunned with the shot, visibly showing how impressed he was while the crowd cheered on. He even bowed down to the cricketer. The two also played cricket together, with the Serbian bowling to Smith.

Fans not surprised as Steve Smith plays tennis with ease 

When Steve Smith successfully returned Novak Djokovic’s serve, many commented on how he looked comfortable playing Tennis. Many enjoyed the interaction, calling for more collaborations like that. Others commented how Smith could do anything, commending his skills. One even commented that he wanted a tennis match between Virat Kohli and Smith.

Steve Smith was recently announced as the Australian Team’s new Test opener after David Warner retired. Cameron Green has been touted to replace him at his usual number 4. Their next Test series will be against West Indies, where Smith will open in Tests for the first time.
