This Ashes series has been filled with controversies. From Ben Stokes’ aggressive declaration in the first Test to Alex Carey stumping out Jonny Bairstow in the second Ashes Test, fans have seen it all. Now, with the fifth Ashes Test underway and England looking to level the series, Stuart Broad’s actions caused a stir among the fans.
On Day 2 of the fifth Test, Broad was involved in something controversial which perhaps resulted in Marnus Labuschagne‘s dismissal in Australia’s first inning. Just before Labuschagne was dismissed by Mark Wood owing to a terrific catch from Joe Root in the first slip, Broad flipped the bails at the striker’s end.
As the Aussie batter was getting ready to face Wood, Broad came running and flipped the position of the bails. While Labuschagne laughed it out when Broad was playing his “mind game”, the batter was seen complaining about it to the umpire when he was dismissed. Meanwhile, England Cricket shared the footage hailing Broad.
Fans call out the pacer but did Stuart Broad cheat there?
This action from Stuart Broad certainly did not sit well with Australian fans who started the spirit of cricket debate. Many pointed out how entire England would have “cried” had any Australian fielder tried such antics.
While fans were critical of Broad about his little mind game with Labuschagne, the England pacer was doing nothing wrong there. Broad was well within his rights to flip the bails and Labuschagne too could have changed it back.
