Australia

In match no 31 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022, hosts Australia faced Ireland in the chase for a top position in their group. The match was played in The Gabba, where Ireland won the toss and decided they would bowl first with the intent of playing with the same courage they displayed against England.

The match started with Barry McCarthy making Australian veteran David Warner struggle after getting him out for just 3 of 7. Aaron Finch showed consistency as he dominated the crease with his 63 of 44. Mitchell Marsh contributed some valuable runs with his 28 of 22 as Glenn Maxwell and Tim David went back to the pavilion with low scores.

The star of the game was Marcus Stoinis as he smashed some destructive boundaries to get Australia to a total of 179 for the loss of 5 whereas Barry McCarthy and Joshua Little grabbed 3 and 2 scalps respectively with other bowlers going back to the pavilion with no wickets for themselves.

Lorcan Tucker being the one-man army was the only batsman who frightened the Australian bowlers. The kangaroos had a hard time facing him as he made sure no bowler goes economical. Only if the other Irish batsmen supported him, Ireland would have been the one in this tournament to defeat Australia.

Marcus Stoinis bagged a scalp as Josh Hazelwood went back empty-handed. Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell, and Mitchell Starc bagged 2 wickets each to make sure the Kangaroos remain on second position, just behind their neighbour’s New Zealand.
