Dattajirao Gaekwad, who was India’s oldest living Test cricketer, died on February 13 in Baroda at the age of 95. But the Indian team, instead of wearing black armbands in his memory on Day 1 of the third Test against England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, decided to wear them on Day 3.

Ahead of Day 3, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the players are going to don the black armbands in memory of the former Indian Test captain.

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar did not like this as he said the players should have worn black armbands on the first day itself.

Better late than never… they should've done it on Day 1, but better late than never.
Gavaskar said while doing commentary
He was captain of the Indian team in a five-match series. He captained four out of the five matches and the other one was captained by Pankaj Roy.
