“If you are looking for only slim and trim guys, then you go to a fashion show,” Sunil Gavaskar blasts selectors for ignoring Sarfaraz Khan
Gavaskar further asserted that even if the selectors want to go with the Yo-Yo test, that shouldn’t be the only criterion and that the selectors should also check if the player is fit for cricket as well.

Sunil Gavaska; Sarfaraz Khan
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar slammed the Chetan Sharma-led All-India election Committee for ignoring in-form Sarfaraz Khan. Sarfaraz is unstoppable in Ranji Trophy, and recently he smashed another century (against Delhi) in first-class cricket.
Sarfaraz has amassed 2441 runs over the last three seasons, but he hasn’t even debuted for India yet. This season, he scored 556 runs in six games for Mumbai, including three centuries. As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named the squad for the first two matches of the upcoming Gavaskar-Border Trophy (starting February 9), Sarfaraz didn’t find his name in the list. The BCCI hasn’t yet released the squad for the last two Tests against Australia.
Fans, along with several current and former cricketers expressed their disappointment over Sarfaraz’s snub. And recently, Gavaskar did the same. “He is not staying off the field when he is scoring hundreds, he is back on the field again,” Gavaskar told India Today.
Sunil Gavaskar thinks Yo-Yo test shouldn’t be the only criterion for selection

Gavaskar further asserted that even if the selectors want to go with the Yo-Yo test, that shouldn’t be the only criterion and that the selectors should also check if the player is fit for cricket as well.
“All that tells you that the man is fit for cricket. If you are looking for only slim and trim guys, then you might as well go to a fashion show and pick some models and then give them a bat and ball in their hand and then include them. You have cricketers in all shapes and sizes. Don’t go by the size, but go by the runs and the wickets,” added the 1983 World Cup-winning player.
After the Australia Test snub, Sarfaraz talked about how he cried and felt lonely. He also revealed a conversation he had with BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma who promised the 25-year-old to give him a call for the Bangladesh tour last year. About his fitness, the Mumbai batter said that he has cleared all the Yo-Yo tests in the past. “I am very fit. Everyone has a different body structure”.
