Sunil Gavaskar feels THIS Delhi Capitals star should lead the team instead of David Warner

Delhi Capitals (DC) captain David Warner has been scoring half-centuries but still, he has been garnering criticism from fans and experts. The reason is his poor strike rate. At present, he has collected 306 runs in seven matches with four half-centuries but his strike rate of 119 has come under the scanner.
But at the same time, one name that has stood out from the rest of the DC players is that of Axar Patel. Axar has improved his batting a lot and whenever the team faces a collapse, he tried to rescue it. He has scored 182 runs at a strike rate of 135 in the seven matches.
Delhi Capitals started their campaign with a defeat and would go on to face four more losses. They registered their first win against Kolkata Knight Riders and later shocked Sunrisers Hyderabad as well. Warner wouldn’t have led the side had Rishabh Pant not missed the entire season due to the car crash last year. But his absence saw Warner being given the captaincy role while Axar became his deputy.
Sunil Gavaskar heaps praise on Axar Patel
And as the Gujarat-born all-rounder has been delivering consistently in both the batting and bowling department, the legendary Sunil Gavaskar suggested that instead of Warner, Axar should be given the leadership role, through which the Indian team can also benefit.
“I believe Axar Patel should be appointed the captain of Delhi Capitals. He is an honest player. He’s in a good rhythm. The Indian team can benefit from him being named the captain of the franchise and performing well. All these things should be done in the long run,” Gavaskar told Star Sports Cricket Live.
Axar has performed for India in recent times as well. He has played crucial roles during the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scoring 264 runs in four matches, which also made him the second highest-run scorer for India.
