“He is very similar to MS Dhoni,” Sunil Gavaskar lavishes praise on this IPL captain for his leadership skills

MS Dhoni, Sunil Gavaskar
The legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar lavished huge praise on Hardik Pandya and compared his captaincy with that of India’s most successful captain- MS Dhoni. Pandya, who was ridiculed at first when he was made the captain, led Gujarat Titans (GT) to the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy in their maiden appearance in 2022 and since then, he has garnered praise from fans and former cricketers.
This year also, GT started with a victory against Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and went on to win six of the eight matches they have played so far. As he continues to impress many with his leadership skills, Gavaskar observed that Pandya’s specialty is that he doesn’t impose his personality on the team which is helping the players a lot.
“Sometimes the captains try to keep their personality and the team’s personality the same. The personality of the captain and the team could be different. Hardik is not trying to impose his personality on the team. That’s what Hardik is doing with GT. This is going to be his legacy as a skipper. He’s very similar to MS Dhoni in his approach as captain and imbibed the good qualities from his former India skipper,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
Hardik Pandya heaps praise on Ashish Nehra who helped him in his growth
Pandya has often praised GT head coach Ashish Nehra for helping him grow as a captain. He recently revealed that despite their being different persons, their approach to the game is the same and that has guided him well.
“One person who has been crucial in my growth is Ashu bhai (Ashish Nehra). We are mad people. We are slightly different kinds of people but our game sense is the same. He has guided me well,” Pandya said in an interaction with Robin Uthappa on Jio Cinema.
Meanwhile, GT have locked horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and won the match by seven wickets.
