Sunil Gavaskar echoed Rohit Sharma‘s remark that only those youngsters who have the hunger to play Test cricket should be included in the team. The Indian captain said this thing when he was asked about the IPL vs Test debate at the press conference after India’s series win against England after the fourth match at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi.
Sharma said the management will include only those players who have the hunger to play a tough format like Test cricket. He also said that it’s easier to figure out who wants to play the longest format of the game and who doesn’t.
Gavaskar agreed with Sharma and said that the players should show loyalty towards Indian cricket because it has given them so much. He lauded the current attitude of the selections, saying it’s good for Indian cricket.
He's absolutely right. The ones who want to play Test cricket, you look at them. I've been saying this for years. The players are what they are because of Indian cricket.Gavaskar said on Sports Tak
The stage of life and career they are at is all because of Indian cricket. The money, fame, and recognition that they have got is because of Indian cricket. So you've got to show some loyalty towards Indian cricket. He added
State cricket agrees with Rohit Sharma as well
Rohit Sharma’s stern remark created a stir in Indian cricket. His statement came at a time when two cricketers who have established themselves in Indian cricket decided not to feature in domestic cricket despite a BCCI diktat.
Well, these two players are Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer. Though reports have come out that Iyer will play for Mumbai in the semi-final of the Ranji Trophy.
After Sharma’s statement, Abhilash Khandekar, the president of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association told PTI that there should be fire in the bellies of the youngsters to play the longest format of the game.
