“Just a different beast in t20’s”- Netizens praise Suryakumar Yadav as he equals Virat Kohli’s 13-year-old record with fifty in T20I against South Africa
Last year, he finished with 1164 runs from 31 matches, and today he completed 2000, becoming the fastest Indian batter to reach the mark alongside Kohli.

For the past few months, Indian fans were hungry for a Suryakumar Yadav show as he was failing to display his prowess in ODIs. But as soon as the 2023 ODI World Cup got wrapped up and the focus shifted to bilateral series, SKY started firing on all cylinders again by exhibiting his unorthodox batting.
After the five-match T20I series against Australia, India are playing three T20Is against South Africa. The first match was washed out, but in the second match, India, after batting first, reached a respectable 180/7 (before the match faced rain interruption) thanks to Surya’s fifty and finishing touches from Rinku Singh.
Suryakumar, who has been the No.1 T20I batter since October 2022, equaled the 13-year-old record of Virat Kohli. Last year, he finished with 1164 runs from 31 matches, and today he completed 2000, becoming the fastest Indian batter to reach the mark alongside Kohli.
Pakistan’s Babar Azam and wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan stand top of the list of fastest to reach 2000 as both reached the mark in 52 innings. Kohli used to stand third on the list with Surya now joining him.
However, the 31-year-old batter is the fastest to complete 2000 runs in terms of balls faced (1164) in T20Is. He also became the first Indian captain to score a half-century in South Africa in a T20I game.
Netizens hail Suryakumar Yadav as he equaled Virat Kohli’s record
