T20 Blast 2022: Derbyshire’s Mattie McKiernan bowls most expensive spell in T20 cricket history

In the T20 Blast between Derbyshire and Somerset, the latter completely thrashed the former during the fourth quarter-final match played at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton on July 9 (Saturday). Somerset also went on to register highest total in the tournament after smashing 265 runs in their alloted 20 overs.
Derbyshire had won the toss and opted to bowl first. Somerset batters started playing a lot more aggressively as openers Tom Banton and Will Smeed gave a perfect start to the team. Later when Rilee Rossouw joined Banton, both of them unleashed brutal assault to the Derbyshire bowling line-up.

Derbyshire vs Somerset

For Derbyshire, leg-spinner Mattie McKiernan had the worst outing with as a bowler as he registered the most expensive spell in the T20 cricket history, in his alloted four overs. McKiernan conceded 82 rus in his four overs at an economy rate of 20.5. He also failed to scalp any wickets for his side.
Banton scored 73 runs off 41 balls and Rossouw scored 93 runs off just 36 balls including eight fours and seven maximums. Derbyshire responded by scoring just 74 runs before getting bowled out within 11.2 overs. Batsman Wayne Madsen scored the most runs for his team with his 14 runs off 17 balls.
Somerset’s veteran pacers Peter Siddle and Ben Green bagged three wickets to help their sides register a huge 191-run victory. Rossouw was awarded the Player of the match for his knock of 93 off 36 balls.
