Zimbabwe and South Africa clashed against each other in Match 6 of the Super 12 stage at the T20I World Cup. Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to bat after the match got reduced to 9 overs per innings which required both teams to change their game plans as per the scrutiny.

Zimbabwe started on a slow note as they lost Regis Chakabva and captain Craig Ervine cheaply, followed by Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza. Wesley Madhevere came to the rescue to score a quick-fire 35 of 18 where he scored four boundaries and a maximum. They put on a target of 80 runs for the Proteas which could have been a challenging total.

Africans went onto a flyer start through their veteran Quinton de Kock who dazzled on the pitch with his 47 of just 18 with only 3 overs played in the game out of the again reduced 7 over an innings. The rain came down hard enough, so one could understand the frustration of the Zimbabwe players too. They saw Richard Ngarava limp off gingerly and their main bowlers weren’t even able to bowl.

It was a hard result for the Proteas to digest considering the odds for South Africa to win. To be fair the umpires did try to stretch the game for as long as possible.
