What an extraordinary match it was! There were mistakes, there was intense pressure; there was a drama in the last over. Without a doubt this will be written in the history books with golden letters as one of the most insane matches in T20. And who is the hero? The chase master, the talismanic- Virat Kohli.
Needless to say, Kohli always becomes a star when clashing against India’s greatest rivals Pakistan. This match wasn’t different for him. When it looked Haris Rauf’s dismissal of Rohit Sharma and the destructive Suryakumar Yadav would turn the table, Kohli kept the momentum on India’s side with his constant big hits and running between the wickets. He added 82 unbeaten runs off 53 balls with six fours and four maximums.
The opening duo of Rohit and Rahul failed miserably. Talking about Rahul, he hasn’t learnt yet to play Naseem Shah because like the Asia Cup 2022 and the 2021 World Cup, an inside edge seemed to cheaply end his knock.
He single-handedly won the match for India, while Hardik Pandya not only batted as a supporter but he must be equally given credit for a calm approah. He had done his job by playing 37 balls and scoring 40 runs when Mohammad Nawaz, to breakbreak of the Indians, dismissed Pandya.
But Dinesh Karthik‘s entry onto the field gave a little relief but alas! Just on the last delivery of the over, Nawaz trapped him. But no, something happened before that too.
16 runs was needed in the final over. Nawaz was under pressure and that made him bowl a no-ball. After the dismissal of Pandya on the first ball of the last over, Karthik came. On the fourth ball, Nawaz bowled a no-ball in front of Kohli and the Indian star sent it beyong the boundary ropes.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who came after the dismissal of Karthik, used his engineering mind right on the field when one run was needed off one ball. He read Nawaz’s ball and didn’t lift his bat. Score leveled up, while in the next ball, Ashwin hit the winning run and India won the match by four wickets. A perfect revenge of their last year’s humiliating 10-wicket defeat!
