Bangladesh cricketer Tamim Iqbal has withdrawn his international retirement hours after announcing it in an emotional press conference on Thursday (6 July). This comes after his meeting with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday afternoon.

Notably, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon who earlier suggested Tamim Iqbal be mentally strong, had denied to accept Iqbal’s retirement from international cricket. As the 34-year-old announced on Thursday that he will no longer play for Bangladesh at the highest level, Papon has asked Tamim to reconsider his decision.

The BCB President has called out the announcement from Iqbal saying it is not a wise decision. Nazmul Hassan has also sought Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s help in this regard. Hasina had called upon Iqbal and invited the cricketer for a meeting at her residence.

Notably, Tamim Iqbal broke into tears while announcing his sudden retirement from international cricket. The 34-year-old did not reveal the reason behind but he certainly seemed upset with things happening in the background in BCB. Meanwhile, the BCB President criticized Iqbal for leaving the team in a World Cup year.
