The top 5 run getters of IPL 2022 – Jos Buttler leads the way, but who all make the cut ?

IPL 2022 saw super power hitting along with some classy stroke play by some of the top batsman around the world. And as always, the batsman with the most runs scored is awarded the Orange Cap at the end of the season. While this season, it was won by Rajasthan Royal’s Jos Buttler, the cap has been won by various players across the tournament’s history.
Australian batsman, David Warner leads the way with most Orange Caps won (3), Chris Gayle is up there with 2. On the other hand, Virat Kohli leads the charts when it comes to most runs scored in the history of the tournament with 6626 runs. The second place belongs to Shikhar Dhawan with 6244 runs. However, as IPL 2022 draws to an end, let’s look at the top leading run getters of this year’s tournament.

The top 5 run scorers of IPL 2022

1. Jos Buttler
Jos Buttler scored 863 runs in 17 matches for the Rajasthan Royals. The Englishman was at the top of his game with 4 centuries this year alone. He even got a 50+ score on 8 occasions, scoring at an average of 57.5 and having a commendable strike rate of 149.05. Making him one of the most explosive opening batsman this year. Buttler’s 863 is also the second most runs scored by an individual in a single season after Virat Kohli’s 973.
2. KL Rahul
The Lucknow Super Giants captain has made it a habit if scoring 600 plus runs in ever IPL. While he scored 616 this season, he’s averaged 637 runs per season since IPL 2020. KL Rahul has been leading from the front ever since he was appointed captain of the Punjab Kings, and while his team hasn’t always made it to the top, he surely as been among the top run getters for his side.
3. Quinton de Kock
KL Rahul’s compatriot, Quinton de Kock has also been flourishing with his new franchise. The duo together have been the most successful opening pair in the IPL as well. De Kock also enjoyed a good scoring this season with 508 runs in 15 games at an average of just over 36, striking at a healthy 148. De Kock’s 140 against the Kolkata Knight Riders was also the third highest individual score by a batsman in IPL history.
4. Hardik Pandya
Another captain, leading from the front has been Hardik Pandya. Pandya enjoyed his best ever IPL season with the bat as he amassed 487 runs helping his side to their maiden IPL trophy in their first season in the IPL. Hardik did this while also picking up 8 wickets with the ball being the perfect all rounder for his team.
5. Shubman Gill
22 year old Shubman Gill completes the list with his very crucial 483 runs. The young lad was exceptional in Gujarat Titan’s run the IPL trophy as he was their most successful opener. Gill was an amazing anchor for Gujarat making it his 3rd consecutive season scoring over 400 runs. Gill also substantially improved his strike rate this season, from 118 last year to a healthy 132 this season.
