The top 5 wicket takers of IPL 2022
1. Yuzvendra Chahal
Yuzvendra Chahal leads the way with 27 wickets in 17 matches this season. The 31 year old was crucial in Rajasthan Royal’s run to the finals as he was always used to break partnerships and get settled batsman out. Not to forget, he also took the only IPL hattrick of this season and the first of his IPL career against the Kolkata Knight Riders. At 7.75, Uzi’s economy rate was one of the lowest among all the other top wicket takers this season.
2. Wanindu Hasaranga
RCB’s Wanindu Hasaranga finished his first full IPL season with 26 wickets to his name, just one short of Yuzvendra Chahal. However, in any case, Hasaranaga enjoyed an amazing year with the Royal Challengers Bangalore becoming a crucial part in their 3rd place finish this season.
3. Kagiso Rabada
The 2020 Purple cap winner finished 3rd this season with 23 wickets in 13 games. Rabada started the season a little late with the Punjab Kings and surely would have given Chahal a run for his money had his team progressed to the playoffs of IPL 2022. Rabada started slow but eventually got the crucial wickets for PBKS, but they eventually fell short of finishing top 4 in the Points table.
4. Umran Malik
Umran Malik bowled the fastest ball of IPL 2022 until the finals where Lockie Ferguson eclipsed him to bowl a 157.3 kmph fire ball. However, even after that, Malik enjoyed a stellar season as he earned himself quite a bit of respect with 22 wickets and the Emerging player award. Malik was always known to bowl fast , but his ability to constantly cross the 150 mark surely raised eyebrows and got him the recognition he deserves. The 22 year old surely has a long way to go.
5. Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav had been reduced to just a bench warmer at KKR last year. But 2022 proved to be a redemption year for the 27 year old as he picked up 21 wickets for his new team, Delhi Capitals. Kuldeep bowled superbly for the Delhi Capitals as he formed a formidable partnership with Axar Patel to take wickets in the middle overs.
