“This was the sacrifice we needed to make”- Kumar Kartikeya’s mother recalls son’s arrival after 9 years wait

Kumar Kartikeya’s journey to be a successful cricketer might look to some a fairytale ending but the player and his family had to endure various hardships.
The 24-year-old left-arm wrist spinner left his home nine years ago to achieve success in cricket. When he returned home, the atmosphere was overwhelming for him and his family.
He found a mentor in his coach Sanjay Bharadwaj, who put him on the right track. Kartikeya was spotted by the Mumbai Indian franchise and as a replacement, he got the chance to bowl in the Indian Premier League 2022. In his maiden match, he returned with the figures of 2/19, dismissing Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson on the very second ball of his spell.
He got selected to play in the Ranji Trophy in the 2021-2022 season. After that, he called his father who couldn’t control his emotions.
In the Ranji Trophy, Kartikeya finished with 32 wickets that is also the second highest in the season. His contributions helped Madhya Pradesh win their first trophy in 23 years.
Kartikeya’s father Shyam Nath Singh recalled a story he used to repeat when Kartikeya was a kid.
“There are two paths. One is right and the other is wrong. The wrong path will be easy and the other one will be filled with difficulties and challenges, but that’s what will make your journey successful,” Shyam Nath Singh said in a video shared by Mumbai Indians in the “Kal Ke Sitaare” series. And indeed Kartikeya chose the other road, the one full of difficulties and challenges.

Kumar Kartikeya’s mother, Sunita Singh then recalled her son’s arrival:
“He was coming home after 9 years. That’s how long I have waited for my son to return, successful and happy. After all the sacrifices over the years, I pray to god to recognize his journey and bless him with success so that I could be reunited with my son.
“It is his life and his journey, this was a sacrifice that we needed to make,” Sunita Singh said in a video.
