India’s batting stalwart Virat Kohli is back among the runs and will be hoping for nothing less than a terrific outing in the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies. The 34-year-old is considered a legend in the 50-over format and Kohli’s numbers speak for him. The former India captain has amassed a massive 12898 runs in 265 innings of 274 ODIs.
Kohli has 46 centuries in the format and is only second to the great Sachin Tendulkar who sits atop with 49 ODI tons. Apart from that the 34-year-old also has 25582 runs in International cricket which Kohli has scored with the help of 76 centuries.
While runs had dried up for the veteran batter in the last couple of years, Kohli is back among the runs. Ever since he scored his 71st hundred back in Asia Cup 2022, Kohli has scored five more centuries across formats. Now, with three ODIs lined up against the Windies, Kohli will have an opportunity to further pile up runs.
Here are three records Virat Kohli can break during ODI series against West Indies
As Virat Kohli is certain to get a place in India’s playing XI for all three ODIs, Kohli will have a chance to break multiple records. Here are three of them.
1. Become the fourth leading run-scorer in International cricket
Virat Kohli has 25582 runs in International cricket. Now, as he gears up to play in the ODI series against the West Indies, Kohli can become the fourth leading run scorer in the history of the game. The former India captain needs 376 runs to pip Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene in the list of leading run scorers in International cricket.
2. Become the fastest to complete 13000 runs in ODI cricket
Virat Kohli is just 102 runs shy of completing 13000 runs in ODI cricket. With three ODIs lined up, Kohli has the best chance to become the fastest to the milestone. Even if Virat Kohli scores 102 runs combined in the three ODIs, he will be the fastest to the milestone, having completed it in 268 innings. Currently, Sachin Tendulkar holds the record, having achieved the milestone in 321 innings.
3. Complete 11000 runs while batting at No.3 in ODIs
Virat Kohli also stands a chance to complete 11000 runs while batting at the No.3 position in ODIs. He needs 223 runs to reach the milestone. However, Virat Kohli is still behind Ricky Ponting on the list of batters with the most runs while batting at No.3 in ODIs. The former Australia captain has a massive 12662 runs in 330 innings. But Kohli still has 120 innings to catch Ponting.
