India’s latest debutant in T20Is, Tilak Varma impressed one and all with his fearless batting approach in the first T20I against the West Indies. As Varma got a chance to bat at No.4, Varma sized the opportunity by playing a quick cameo. The left-handed batter scored 39 runs off 21 balls with the help of three sixes and two boundaries.

Although Varma could not take his team home, the batter impressed with his fearless batting approach. Varma showed no fear as he dispatched Alazarri Joseph for two consecutive sixes on the second and third ball of his inning.

He then also took charge against Romario Shepherd, launching the pacer for a six over long-off. However, Varma was eventually dismissed by Shepherd as the right-arm pacer got Varma caught in deep as the batter tried to play another swivel-pull shot.

In the short time spent at the crease, Tilak Varma left a big impact, not only on the game but on the fans watching him. While there were no questions about Varma’s batting prowess, considering he was among the highest run-getters for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023, everyone wanted to see how Varma reacted to the pressure of International cricket.

And it seems, the questions were answered. Varma showed no jitters or nervousness as such. He handled pace and spin equally well on a tricky West Indies pitch and fans were quick to notice that.

Despite this batting effort from Varma, India could not finish on the right side of the result, losing the game by 4 runs. While India were looking settled after restricting West Indies at 149/6, they were themselves restricted at 145/9. Barring Varma, not India batter (expect for Suaykumar who scored 21 off 20) cross the 20-run mark.
