Team India’s one of the two debutants in the first India vs West Indies T20I, Tilak Varma took a spectacular catch running to his left to dismiss Johnson Charles. It came on Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling who outfoxed the batter in flight and got him to mistime his lofted slog sweep.
As Yadav floated a full delivery, Charles his knees down and went full throttle with his slog sweep. However, with not much pace and some turn on the ball, the batter could not time his shot well enough. Resultantly, the ball went high up in the air, between long-on and deep midwicket.
Varma called for the catch and completed it. The fielder, who was stationed at deep midwicket ran a few yards to his left before putting in a dive. Varma got hold of the ball and did not let it pop out even when he hit the turf.
Tilak Varma impresses with the bat too
While Tilak Varma stunned everyone with his athleticism on the field, the Hyderabad cricketer wowed cricket fans with his shot-making skills when Varma came to bat. The left-handed batter hit two consecutive sixes to open his account and score his first runs in International cricket. Varma pulled Alzarri Joseph for the two sixes.
Varma soon hit a third six which showed the range the youngster possesses. As Romario Shepherd fed a full ball to Varma, the batter hit a lofted drive over long-off for a maximum. Such was the impact that Varma reached into the 30s in a blink of an eye. However, Varma could not propel the team to victory as he was dismissed for 39.
