Andre Russell is the man Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) rely on whenever there is a need to finish the innings. And now KKR have found another finisher in the team, the fearless Rinku Singh. Both of them and a solid start helped the hosts register a thrilling victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Monday (May 8) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

KKR started the run chase in a positive manner with Jason Roy, the Impact Player, slamming 38 runs from 24 balls while at the other end, Rahmanullah Gurbaz played the role of a supporter. But after their dismissal, skipper Nitish Rana led the attack to slam his half-century but right after reaching the mark, Rahul Chahar dismissed him. Rana smashed six and six boundaries to score 51 runs from 38 balls.

Then it was Andre Russell‘s show. At first, the West Indian batted at a monstrous 200-plus strike rate but couldn’t make much impact in the last over when six runs were needed off the last six balls. However, he perfectly did his duty to take KKR to a commanding position by racking up 42 runs from 23 balls with three fours and an equal number of sixes.

A run-out by Jitesh Sharma on the penultimate delivery of the last over ended his knock. Then KKR heaved a sigh of relief when Rinku Singh sent the ball toward the boundary off the last ball to secure a thumping win over the visitors by five wickets.
